TRAVEL DIARY: PRAGUE – The Old Town

-ITA-

The most characteristic part of Prague revolves all around Old Town Square,

a lovely and ancient square, surrounded by palaces with very beautiful architecture and the Church of St. Mary of Tyn, a beautiful Gothic church characterized by being almost "walled" on one side by the facade of a building, which must be crossed to enter (though in fact there is another side entrance).
But it's not over here, like many other Gothic-style churches in Prague, surprising inside is baroque! A peculiar baroque, not the same as we are used here in Italy, in some ways more "violent" and less "naturalistic".

On the side of the square there is the famous astronomical clock, the symbol of Prague, very beautiful and interesting from outside, a bit less inside the tower that supports it.

Near the Old Town Square there is the Jewish Quarter (very elegant and full of beautiful shops) whose main attraction is the Spanish Synagogue (very beautiful but the ticket is a robbery: it is much more expensive respect to all others places we've visited, include other 2-3 things to visit that are not of any interest, and in addition they charge you an extra for photos - thing that we discovered when we were just inside - not really worth the money ...) but a little further there is a very special shop the "Speculum Alchemiae", all furnished as the reconstruction of an alchemist's workshop. It sells liquor, spices and such things but it's worth going to give it a look!

After the church of S.Maria di Tyn, you can reach the Republic Square, with the Tower of the powder: this tower is worth climbing despite the steps being narrow and dark and at the top it is quite windy, it offers the most beautiful view of the city stand in the middle of it!
